Establishing career direction is an important part of the job search process, but based on a LinkedIn report there are some college degrees that are transferable to a variety of positions. Although college students might need to pick a major, that does not necessarily mean they have to pick a specific career. One in three college students change their major at least once while in college and FEWER than one in five college grads said their career services office was helpful. Coming from the career services field, I will suggest that some college students do not take advantage of career services until they are about to graduate. That is too late. Many college students do not understand the mission of career services, which in most cases is to provide the TOOLS for a successful job search, rather than an actual job placement. They are not employment agencies!
