This article raises some humorous, but excellent points on what not to do during your first day at a new job. In my opinion, what you should do during your first day at a new job is to create a documentation file. In this file, begin to document any achievements, compliments, conversations, and all other situations where you reached a goal or provided some value to the company or department. When your first performance evaluation and/or salary review takes place, you will be able to show documented evidence that you are doing a good job, rather than coming across as….”Take my word for it. I am doing a good job.”….without providing any evidence that you really are. This documentation file will give you confidence during that review and most likely lead to greater salary increases.
